Saluti Paul, caro fratello Stefanesi:
Beautiful website of your family and our beloved ancestral home: Santo Stefano Quisquina. I am the great-grandson of Andrea Cacciatore (1876-1963) who in 1894 emigrated with his cousin Filippo D'Amico to New Roads, Louisiana where they established a mercantile store partnership serving a wide agricultural area. My great-grandfather purchased a portion of the St. Cyr plantation on False River near New Roads in 1915, grew cotton and sugar cane there, and the land remains in our family today. Our ancestors in SSQ include the families Cacciatore, D'Amico, Castellano, Cammarata, Filipello, Chillura Martino, Chillura Marino, LaGiorgia, LoCicero and Catanese. I will be pleased to know that we are related. Our last contact from SSQ was a letter from my great-great-uncle Vincenzo Cacciatore, living at Via Timpa 1 in 1959, but just this year - via email - I've been corresponding with a distant cousin, Natanael Greco Ferlizi, who has lived successively in Sicily, Portugal, Brazil and London. I am 37 years old, a professional historian and author of 15 books, and appreciate all efforts at the preservation of our origins, history and culture. Our very best wishes to you and all your family, as well as all the Stefanesi, wherever they may be. Grazie! Ciao!

hullo to the american branch of the antinori family! as i was trying to register www.antinori.com i came through your beutiful and interesting site, and i also learnt of ron's trip to florence with relevant visit to the antinori wine family & palace & wineyards. also my surname is antinori, i was born and live in florence, my family is florentine, and maybe my links to the "real" antinori family were lost centuries ago. but if next time any of you come to florence and wish to visit the "poor" branch of the family, you will be welcome! ciao! alberto antinori

Paul, I am yet another cousin in Tampa. I'm not sure exactly how you and I are related, but I believe our great grandfathers may have been cousins. I met your father at my grandmother's home when I was a child, and he was introduced by my grandmother as a cousin.I found your guestbook on the web, and really do want to contact Liliana Pizzuto Antinoro, who wrote you in Jan.-Feb, 2003. She is the granddaughter of Angelo Pizzuto Antinoro, who was the younger brother of my grandmother, Paola Pizzuto Antinoro Di Bona. I maintain frequent contact with cousins (grandchildren of Antonino Pizzuto Antinoro, the youngest brother), who reside in Santo Stefano Quisquina. Please forward this message on to Liliana with my email address, so she can contact me. Thanks for hosting a site where so many cousins have discovered each other! Doreen Di Bona Tampa, FL

Hello Paul I have read your site web it is very beautiful, a testimony of the past that is not forgotten and that we may seek to re-live. I think that the history of our family must be known and not forgotten. What you know on the ancient origins of the Pizzuto Antinoro family, I have also known. I would like to see from which other countries has origin this family because in the books that discuss the native families of Santo Stefano, the Pizzutos Antinoros do not appear. I want to make some searches in the church of Santo Stefano and in common to find some traces, because in June I will go to Sicily for the feast of Santa Rosalia that is the holy protectress of Santo Stefano. When I am able, I go to Sicily because it is a splendid island. what I like more is that every angle of his is characteristic, every country is different from the other one it is an earth rich in testimonies of the past: Greek temples, Norman buildings, Spaniards and Arabic architecture. There are no words to describe to you the landscape and the Sicilian nature. The perfumes that come from the numerous aromatic plants that spontaneously grow. And Santo Stefano is very beautiful country, it is surrounded by trees of pines that in the summer bring the coolness. It is rare to find such a place so rich in water. I thank my grandparents that lived there. I have spent some summers as a child in Santo Stefano and I have had the opportunity of knowing the people and the Sicilian culture. So I have literally fallen in love with Sicily because of this and I am sending some photos of my paintings of Sicily. I have dwelled a lot to describe to you the Sicilian beauties and I hope that you can one day see the places from which your ancestors have lived. I am also starting further reasearch on the descendants of Salvatore Pizzuto Antinoro and I will send you what I know. Best regards from, Liliana Pizzuto Antinoro

Hello to all people whose name is Antinori! Strange to find this site, i was just looking if any of my family members is mentioned anywhere in the internet. Never thought that there could be so many people called Antinori in America. I've always been quite proud of my name and would never change it, even if I should marry once. I am from Luxembourg and as far as I know some members from the Antinori family in the "marche" (village named talamello) immigrated to Luxembourg about 106 years ago. Me I'm living and working in Austria at the moment and hope to visit the village next year. Unfortunately I can't remember the names of my realtives right now who immigrated... but I don't think that we (you in America and me) have the same roots. Although: very interisting homepage, must have been a lot of work to find all those informations. Greets, Myriam.

I am sitting here with my father marvelling at this site! Although my father's memory is incomplete on this, he recalls that his father Giulio Cacciatore was friends with your family. In fact, at one point in time, the Antinori's lived in an apartment in the back of Giulio's house on 25th avenue. Please let me know if your father recalls this, and if so, what does he recall of the relationship with my grandfather, since we are pulling together the family history. Also, we are trying to get history on Rosario Mortellaro, my maternal grandfather. Giulio was a past president of the Italian Club, and Rosario was an officer at one time, who also leased the bar at the Italian club.

Paul Hi! I spent this evening looking through your very interesting web site and thank you for all the information you have listed. I found many families by the same name as mine but no direct connections. Names such as: Albano, Greco, Cacciatore, Cagnina, Castillano, Diecidue, Ignacio - we knew he and Theresa Leto, Ferlita - we knew Lily and her son Sam and sister, Pullara, Riena and Rumore. Unfortunately I do not have any Antinoris on my family tree. The LDS church has several reels of vital records from Santo Stefano. I have spent a lot of time researching them and extracted many family names. From the research I have done I not only found the same families in Santo Stefano 200 years later but I also found that most of them were related to each other one way or another. It is obvious that we are from the same family even though I do not share your direct line but I will keep you in mind in any further searching and let you know if I find any Antinoris. I will check back to your site from time to time also to see if you have been able to find any more dates which would be very helpful. Good luck in your search - let's stay in touch - it's not every day that you find a new relative. Happy Holidays Lori

Ciao a presto.

The Unione Italiana collection consists primarily of membership records [payment of dues, etc.] and copies of the director's meeting minutes, plus some printed ephemera. If you are interested in the history of the club, or of the Italian community in Tampa, I'm sure you'd find the records useful. If you are interested in family history, there is virtually nothing in the collection relevant to genealogical research. The documentation includes no personal information about specific members or their families. There is at present no specific plan to digitize the collection, though we would eventually like to do so, along with the other mutual aid society papers in our library. Our mailing address is: Special Collections, University of South Florida Library, 4202 E. Fowler Avenue, Tampa, FL 33620. I hope that this information will be helpful. Actually I found this site through my referral list on my stats. I may be responsible for the misinformation about the origins of Sacred Heart Church. I don't even know if the St. Louis Catholic Cemetery is even named for a church. If you look on my site, you will see that that factoid is gone. The old cemetery located on the corner of Woodlawn Cemetery is the Old Centro Asturianos Cemetery. It is on land that was donated(?) or sold by the City of Tampa for that purpose. The L'Unione Italiana Cemetery was always in its location. As far as I know, there was no precursor for them. They did buy the land from the Armwood family who already had some of their dead buried there. There is a small corner that is designated S.M.S. Italia which is a splinter group from L'Unione Italiana. I'm always learning and trying to correct any mistakes that I make.

Honestly, I had just had a conversation with a friend, saying I wondered what the trip was like for my Nanas and Nanos; how they felt when they got to Ellis Island; what they ate; how they got from New York to Tampa, and so on. In fact, the friend I had been talking to about the voyage, just today, sent me the link to the Scozzari(o) - Adamo Family Home Page, what a coincidence! That friend, who's name is Amber, also has a family page of her own. She now lives in NC but in the old days her great grand parents lived on 12th Avenue next to my Nana and Nano. Do check her page, the addy there is: http://www.members.tripod.com/womanola/index.html If it's ok with you, I'd like to also give her the addy to your page, as well. To answer your questions. I'm not sure what kind of information you'll be looking for when you come, so I'll throw out everything I know and hope some of it helps. Yes, the best place to peruse the Tampa Trib is at the library, though you can do searches at the Trib itself. But the Trib makes you pay for stuff. Are you familiar with the USF Special Collections Dept? It contains most of our local historical data. The public library (downtown) has quite a bit, also, but the major bulk of it is at USF. USF also houses the complete collection of the Burgurt Bros. You're right, THOR is helpful but only for the headlines. I'm going to give you some of the site addresses, in case you aren't familiar with these places. You can check them out online and get the info you need/want for when you get here. USF is online at: http://www.lib.usf.edu/spccoll/guide/c/casturia/index.html This will take you to the Centro Asturiano records, but you can get to the main page from there. In the Centro Asturiano collection you'll find the membership lists (men separate from the women!) and most of them have photos. Our City Archives houses the records of the city's cemeteries as well as city directories, maps and lots more stuff that I haven't discovered yet. You can go in to the office and search their records, they have been much more than helpful to me in the few times I've been in there. They have a website that tells about the Archives office. http://scfn.thpl.lib.fl.us/menus/production/tarchives.html I just recently learned that Sacred Heart Church was formerly St Louis Catholic Church. They have a St Louis Cemetery tucked into a little corner of the cemetery downtown -- Oaklawn. Also, in a corner of another cemetery, Woodlawn, is a tiny but very, very old "Italian Cemetery". I don't know if it's the forerunner of the Unione Italian Cemetery or not. It's a spooky little place whose gates close and lock at around 3 PM. I didn't get to go in there the day I discovered it, I was doing a cemetery search for someone else and didn't really have the time that day. Too, I was alone and didn't particularly want to go into that place without company. This is probably the best collection of photographs ever! We are sooo fortunate to have them. If you haven't looked at all of them, do, you'll see so many familiar corners and intersections and addresses. I love just perusing in there. http://www.lamartin.com/burgert/index.htm This one's interesting but is also only titles. It's the Sun Trib from 1893 to 1904. It does list births and deaths and marriages (and hangings), but I think you had to be particularly affluent or particularly scoundrel-ess to have gotten your name in the paper. It's really interesting reading, though, I love reading how they spoke in those days. To access the individual pages you have to first scroll down and click on 'jpeg images'. http://susdl.fcla.edu/cgi-bin/cgiwrap/~fdl/fdlcgi?SF45165245%2Fpdf You can view these articles at the main library. This site may be helpful, it lists some cemeteries but mostly the sub-urban ones. I found plenty of the folks I was looking for in the Civilian Draft Registration. If you search the Civ Draft section, go through and look at each name, don't rely on the name being spelled correctly. http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/fl/toc/hillsborough.htm More photos: http://site.lib.usf.edu:10094/WebZ/Authorize?sessionid=0&next=startscreen&bad=html/authofail.html I hope something in here helps. Also, if you want company on your cemetery treks let me know, I've been trying to get to the St Louis Cemetery since I heard about it. I have 3 "aunts" who died in infancy that I haven't been able to find in the Unione Cemetery. Let me know if I missed anything, or if there's something you would like me to do in advance of your visit. I'll be more than glad to help do whatever I can. Please let me know if there's anything else you need, Paul. Your page is great, thanks again for sharing it with me. ..jt

Padua, 25 August 2001 HI! My name is Ignazio Cacciatore, and i was born in Torino the 4TH of march, 1977. First of all, sorry for my not so good english... I decided to write you reading the little excerpt about your story and your genealogy, found surfing by pure chance through the web. My father, Filippo Cacciatore, and my mother Leto Barone Vincenza, are togheter from Santo Stefano Quisquina, the little town left by your great-grandfather, I think, about the end of eighteen century. I've a great grandmother, from my father's side, I don't remember her name now, born in Tampa, Florida, in 1900. And the father of my grandmother, from my mother's side instead, Mr. Valenti, lived in New York for a long time, coming back in Italy after second world war, and leaving there some cousins... I think I've a lot of relatives lost all aroud United States! I'm really interested about the origin of my family and I confess that is really exciting reading about your interest for your italian root. I spend quite often my holiday (at least one time every two-three years) in Santo Stefano, and I think you should get ther once, to see the little town of your great grandfather! If you're interested, I've a lot of photos, books, and other stuff about Sicily and Santo Stefano Quisquina, and I could ask if there is some descendant of your family still living in the town. It's not the first time I heard the name "Antinori" and I think, if you're able to give me all the information you have about your great-grandfather, I'll be able to get some news for you. About me, I live in Padua, about 35 km far away from Venice, I work like customer service support for a mobile phone operator and I'm reading for a degree in economics in the University of my city. I hope I can get some news from you and I hope you found pleasing finding in your mailbox this letter, CIAO! Ignazio Cacciatore

I would like to say, "hello" and best wishes to my family "The Antinoris" and all of their families. I hope you sign this guestbook if you are related to the Pizzuto-Antinori family originating from Santo Stefano Quisquina in Sicily, Italy. I am thrilled about the website, and am doing ongoing genealogical research into the Pizzuto-Antinoris.
